A Qualitative Case Study on Group Art Therapy Aimed at Promoting Recovery Resilience of Adult Women Subject to Cancer Therapy

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the experiences women undergoing cancer therapy receive from group art therapy aimed at encouraging resilience and explore the significance of it. For this study, the researcher selected women undergoing cancer rehabilitation therapy at B University Nursing Hospital in A city. The researcher conducted group art therapy sessions from July 2, 2020, to July 31, 2020. A total of 8 group art therapy sessions, with 90 minutes each, were held twice a week. This study's results drawn the following conclusions: Firstly, the study participants expressed and released the destress of the cancer treatment process in art, thereby purifying the emotions. Through an experience of understanding themselves, they explored and expressed the negative emotions and improved self-control. Secondly, by experiencing social support from interactions with other participants during the group art therapy, the participants established an external support system. Thirdly, the participants accepted the present by experiencing positive emotions within art activities and finding their strengths. Therefore, this study aims to improve resilience of women who receive cancer treatment by group art therapy to safely explore and express the distress. It was possible to confirm the therapeutic significance of having will and hope
